By Leticia Jensen

There are so many forms of painting in the world of art with the two most popular techniques of painting being oil painting and watercolor painting. Although watercolor painting is the less popular of the two methods, it is still a very well loved form of art and there are a lot of painters who have excelled in this particular field. If one is interested in this form of art, then he probably would be interested to know some of the famous water color artists that existed throughout the centuries.

One of the earliest practitioners of this form would be none other than Albrecht Durer who was an artist from Europe. He was one of the very first people to start watercolor painting sometime during the Renaissance period. He was well known for his extremely detailed works of animals and some still life that really pays close attention to each small stroke.

Another very influential artist would be none other than J. M. W. Turner whose works concentrated on European scenery. His works were not very detailed as compared to other artists but they definitely had a certain charm to them. They were quite simple but very beautiful at the same time which intrigued a lot of appreciators of the arts.

Because of its appearance in a lot of television programs and a lot of movies, the signature painting of James McNeill Whistler, which was Whistlers Mother, became famous in this century. Whistler was a man who was known to paint both his mother and his sister. What made his works famous is his energetic strokes along with the bond combination of colors.

Sometime in the nineteenth century, a famous self taught artist who is known as Winslow Homer who created a lot of watercolor paintings about landscapes and other things made a name for himself in the world of painting. He experimented with many different ways on how to use the brush wherein he was able to come up with different kinds of paintings. Some of these techniques were used by many succeeding painters as these techniques were able to produce so many beautiful works.

Abstract painters would definitely know of the name of Paul Kee. Paul Kee was definitely known for his works on cubes wherein he painted squares in a very different way. Because of his works on cubism, many modern abstract artists also followed in his footsteps.

American painter Edward Hopper was another well known painter who made paintings about everyday American life. His techniques when it comes to painting shadows and light were definitely something that not many artists could do. It was actually because of his extensive study on the direction of light that he was able to paint like that.

So basically, these are some of the most influential water color artists that have actually contributed to the evolution of this art. Of course there are a lot more of these artists but these are some of the most famous ones. Without them, this art form would have not evolved into its state right now.
