Introducing The Art Of Alexander Koleszar

By Patty Goff

Inspiration came early to one artist and painter who grew up in Birmingham, Michigan. Alexander Koleszar developed his great talent for art and painting beginning at age two. Since age 11, the artist has created over thirty different oil paintings on canvas along with a number of drawings. Many of which have now been acquired by collectors and galleries.

While the artist has been focused on his painting career since childhood, it was also during childhood in which the hobby caused Alexander a great deal of grief. Children in the neighborhood would often bully and tease him about the tools and tricks used in painting. If this was not difficult enough, many of his real friends then passed during the AIDs epidemic of the early 1980s.

The painter experienced a personal and professional crisis following this dark period in life. Although, the period also provided a great deal of inspiration for later art. The emotional distress, pain and anguish along with having honed skills in drawing and painting inspired the artist to get back to work. During this time, the artist would often work tirelessly on a number of different projects.

The painter, now working quite passionately, created a number of pieces related to the AIDs crisis. This work reflected both the artist life as well as that of friends and colleagues whom the disease took too early in life. Whether dealing with illness, withdrawal from social circles or other matters, the artist always tries to create pieces which invoke an emotional response in viewers.

One reason Alexander decided to wait on becoming actively involved with collectors was because there was another interest. As the artist always had a love for drawing and classical painting, Koleszar spent a few years learning from and studying with two well known artists. One these artists, a classical painter, and the other a well known sketch artist.

After which, the painter was invited to show work once again at shows in Los Angeles and other locations. Only this time, when collectors came knocking, the artist answered. As a result, many of Koleszar's work can now be found in the homes of collectors, galleries and museums in Europe and the United States.

While Koleszar exhibited art in previous shows, it was not until these most recent ones in which he began selling works to collectors. These collectors from Europe and the United States have become quite interested in the combination of surrealism and realism which the artist uses in a number of pieces. It is interesting that while he had past shows, only in the 1990s did Alexander become known as a "New and Emerging Artist."

It was at this point, collectors from Europe and the United States began collecting the many drawings and paintings which the artist had on exhibit. The work attracted collectors with the artist notable fusion of surrealism and realism. Some of these collectors have suggested the work also portrays a sense of inspiration from the likes of Dali and Magritte, two of the most well known painters of all time.
