Film Production & The Questions To Ask

By Rebecca Mills

Those who have worked in film production will tell you that there is much that goes into this endeavor. Casting, scenery direction, and the like must be carried out and this isn't even the end of it. Perhaps the finest way to learn about this endeavor, as others may attest to, will have to be by asking questions. If you take it upon yourself to bring these inquiries to the table, especially as you learn in college, your understanding of film production will grow.

"Is scripting-writing a long process?" Simply put, this is entirely dependent on what you're writing for. A small film that lasts about an a hour and a half may only take a few weeks to put together. After all, you're not writing with extensive run times in mind, so there will be considerably less material required. Even though some ideas may be cast to the side, there's no doubt that script-writing is essential. It's just a matter of what kind of film you're writing for.

"How should I go about casting?" In order to create the best film imaginable, it's easy to say that casting matters. You have to be able to choose those who are not only prepared for their roles, but are able to convey themselves in the most convincing of ways. In addition, potential actors and actresses should be able to easy get along with others. If these ideas are set in place, casting has the potential to be done with a greater degree of effectiveness.

"Should I get permits before filming?" Without question, if you're going to take part in a more ambitious production of film, permits will be needed. Even if you want to film in a public park, you're going to require permission beforehand. This isn't the case for filming on your own property, as it's yours and yours alone. In any event, those who are serious about producing their films cannot overlook the importance of permits.

Once you ask these questions, and receive strong answers afterward, you'll start to see just how much is involved in film production. These very questions are important, but these aren't the only ones you should bring to the attention of those who teach. Make sure that you direct your full attention to crucial details, as these will only help you better understand what films require. Anyone who's passionate about film production should take this initiative.
