Get Hermes Scarves On Sale To Create Hundreds Of Looks

By Katrina Wheeler

Fashion changes all the time and it can be very difficult to stay on trend if you have to buy new outfits every season. However, you don't have to wreck your budget to look good. With a few wardrobe basics you only need to change your accessories to create a whole new look. If you can find some Hermes scarves on sale, it's even easier to be stylish since these items are so versatile.

Hermes is one of the most famous and oldest names in fashion. The company was started in the early 19th century and originally made bridles, harnesses and saddles for the elite. Just after World War I the company produced its first leather garment and in the 1920s it introduced handbags. Women's couture followed in 1929 and in 1937, the first of the iconic Hermes scarves hit the shelves.

A Hermes scarf is usually made of silk, although the company also creates collections made of a cashmere and silk blend. Each scarf is printed with an intricate design and every year, two collections of designs are released. It measures 90 cm by 90 cm, making it just the right size to be incredibly versatile.

The scarves were a hit right from the start. Soon the rich and famous all started sporting them. They made it onto a postage stamp bearing the image of Queen Elizabeth and made it onto the big screen too, most notably in 'Basic Instinct'. Former Hollywood star and later member of the Monaco royal family, Princess Grace used hers as a sling when she broke her arm. Some people stitch two together to make striking cushions and others have them framed.

The company makes use of freelance artists to come up with the colorful designs and it can take as much as a year to come up with a new one. When the design is finalized, it's sent to the workshop where for the next six months or so, all the separate colors in the design are determined. On average a scarf has 27 colors. Individual screens are then prepared and each color is printed separately. The final touch is to hand-stitch the edges.

There is no right or wrong way to tie or knot the scarf. It's so versatile that you can do almost anything with it. For example, fold it into a triangle and then tie this like a neckerchief. Otherwise, fold the triangle into a long, narrow strip and tie it in a bow or let the ends hang loose.

You don't even have to use the scarf only as something tied around your neck. It's big enough to turn into a top or a tunic, for instance. Tie it around your head for a bohemian gypsy look or fold it into a turban. It can even function as a handbag or as wrapping paper. The company now has an app that includes video tutorials but you'll also find several other ideas online.

If you desire one but can't afford it, you simply need to know when you'll find Hermes scarves on sale. Upscale department stores and boutiques that stock them usually have their sales in January or at the end of the winter or summer season. Another good idea is to check auction websites because here you may find vintage designs that aren't available anywhere else anymore, so you'll be uniquely stylish.
