Scarves are worn for religious purposes regardless of the social class or nobility. Religious scarves have several meanings tied to them according to the color. Muslims use green scarves to symbolize paradise, white to show peace and holiness and black to represent death. Persians wore conical like scarves and are regarded to be the early inventors of the use of scarves.

By being ready, start by tying scarf around the skull in a diagonal manner. You should start from the bottom part of the hair, covering any exposed part of any fabric. This is done making sure that the scarf lays on the previous layers of the cloth. One is to do this for around seven times depending on the size of clothing.

Any extra pieces of cloth at this point must be trimmed to ensure that the scarf will look tidy when worn. The top part of the hair ought to be well tucked in. Make sure that you do this in front of a mirror to make sure that it is done in the best way possible.

In Western countries, traditionally, hair scarves were designed for women. They used to sew them by hand so that they would be worn easily and be removed. However in the modern society, women still wear hair covers with a matching dress to look fashionable. In West African communities, each has a traditional dress for both men and women and it is accompanied by a head scarf.

In the medical profession, doctors do recommend hair scarves for patients especially women suffering from skin cancer. It helps in shielding their hair from direct ultra violet rays of the sun. However, wearing of hair covers is not restricted to persons as children in various religious sects do put on hair scarves.
