When you look at the amount of cell phone applications sold every year the numbers are staggering. Over the last couple of years they have continued on a steady rise and do not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. From business and productivity to funny Android apps, there are programs for just about everything you can think of and for any type of person you can think of.
Surely there are some that are more popular than others and then some that are just downright horrible. The fact that Android is open sourced and anybody can make anything that they choose for the platform there is never a shortage of ideas or applications coming down the pipeline. This is just one of the advantages that Android has over Apple.
No matter what the motives behind it, the fact is that their store works very well and rarely is there an issue with downloads, updates, or just browsing around. The amount of available applications has also been very good lately. More and more games and productivity software have been made available daily. Most of them are fairly cheap as well.
Many of the good ones are even free these days. Regardless of if they are free or not, if people want a specific application they will usually pay a couple bucks for it. Of course when they are free they like it even more. The application developers will sometimes offer the first app they make for free in order to build up a following in preparation for their next one.
Just like any other big company, they want to know which types or styles of applications are fairing better than others so they rank this information also. Of course most of this is only available to them and behind closed doors. But that's ok because I really do not feel a need to start looking through these kinds of numbers and data.
Then you have apps like a Moron Test or a Stupid Test. These are always good for a chuckle or two but after the first couple of times it can tend to get a bit old. You answer a simple set of questions and the app will give you results with some witty remarks as to your level of "stupidity" and then compare that to other so-called famous or rather, "infamous" stupid people.
The fact that people love to laugh helps. Another factor in this is that when people are using their phones they are usually on the go from one place to another, waiting for someone or waiting for something to happen. Point is, they have time to kill and they will take their phone from their pocket and start to look or think about what they can do with it.
Funny Android apps come to mind almost instantly and thankfully there is a wide selection available for people to choose from. The apps are easy to get, fast to download and always give people an easy way to pass the time and get to whatever it is they are trying to get to, wait for, or do. This is one of the best things about it.
