Many people shy away from doing any arts and crafts as they feel that they are not artistic. There is an area where everyone can join in no matter how artistic they are. This is the field of abstract watercolor painting, and it is so simple to do, and at the end of the day you end up with your own unique piece of artwork. You don't even need to spend a fortune on materials, and they can all be obtained at your local arts and crafts store.
A simple exercise only needs a small amount of time and a few items. Obviously you will need paper, something firm to fix it to and something to fix it with. Then there is also a brush, a paint kit and some rubber cement. Most people will use tape to keep the paper on the backing board, but here is a tip to prevent your paper ripping. Cut lengths of tape to size and stick them to your clothes. Quickly remove the lengths of tape, this places small fibers on the tape and so it is not quite so strongly adhesive.
Initially you are advised to stick with just two colors for your first masterpiece. They should be colors that are next to each other on something called a color wheel. A quick look on the internet will reveal what this means. So for example it could be blue and green, or red and yellow. The color choice is yours but should match in with your existing decor.
Once the paper is fixed to the board apply the rubber cement in a random manner. Let it dry naturally, or you could help it along by utilizing a hair dryer. When the rubber cement has dried the first paint can be applied. You can put the paint wherever you choose. You will notice that it bleeds and leeches together depending on how wet the paint is.
There is no requirement to cover all of the paper right away. It is best done in stages, just how many stages is your decision but the drying stages are very important. So it is paint then dry, apply the rubber cement then dry. Don't forget to use the hair dryer to speed the whole process up, it will also ensure that the different layers of paint are firmly fixed before you apply the next coat.
When everything is finally dry the beads of rubber cement can now be removed. This is simply achieved by gently rubbing it with your finger tip. It is the removal of this rubber cement that gives the contrasting pattern. At this point some choose to take a pen and draw along the outlined shapes, others decide to leave the natural finish.
The securing tape can also be removed now. If you followed the tip given earlier it should peel off easily and the paper shouldn't rip. Another thing you will notice is that you also have a nice clean border all of the way around your finished piece of art.
It is this simple to create an abstract watercolor painting. Maybe you now realize that art is not quite so difficult, and possibly you might wish to further explore the art world. Now you need to decide where to display your masterpiece.
