Ways To Keep Collectible Teddy Bears Clean

By Antoinette Quinn

People who own collectibles know the importance of keeping them clean and out of harms way. They know in order to keep them in excellent condition there are steps to be taken. If you know the simple steps to keep collectible teddy bears clean, the more success you will have in keeping them beautiful in the future.

One of the first things you will need to know is that it is highly recommended not to put your collectible teddy bears in the washing machine. This holds a high risk of ruining the fabric and the whole collectible if you do this. Collectibles, especially the types that are made with fabric, can be highly delicate and need the most gentle care.

You can still get your collectibles clean with some light brushing, and wash them gently with warm water. You should not use any form of soap to clean the fabric, because no matter how mild the soap can be, it still leaves a risk of soap residue left behind. So just using warm water is recommended.

What you should do first is get a extra soft brush and just lightly brush the fabric of the teddy bears to remove any loose dirt, dust, and debris. Make sure that you brush all the fabric, including the tiny crevices. Just do not use too much pressure while you are brushing, just remember to keep it light.

The next thing that should be done is to lightly vacuum of the fabric. This is easily done with the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner and a piece of nylon stretched over the opening. The nylon acts as a barrier so the suction will not be too strong and ruin the fabric. You can also place a piece of cheesecloth over the fabric of the teddy bear to protect the fabric.

Get some water and dip a clean, soft cloth into the water, and gently wipe down the fabric of the teddy bears. You will want to only use very light pressure to wipe the fabric. Resist the urge to put a lot of pressure while wiping, this can harm the fabric. You will be very pleased of how just a light touch with simple water when wiping can remove all the dirt, and soil from the fabric.

If you find that the fabric is really soiled and does not come clean the first time, then just proceed with the same process a few more times. Try not to give in to the temptation of overly soaking the fabric to get it clean, this will most likely ruin the fabric. Just using a little patience in this cleaning process will prove to have the best results.

After you have wiped down the fabric, go ahead and do some more light brushing of the fabric before it they fully dry. If you let the fabric dry first, and then brush, it may change the texture of the fabric. After you finish the light brushing, allow the fabric to air dry fully.

To keep your collectible teddy bears clean in the future, all you need is to protect them with a simple covering. You can place them in a clear container, such as a case or a plastic bag to keep them safe. With the clear casing, you will still be able to see the collectibles while they are safely protected.
