The Work Of Conceptual Sculpture Artist

By Jennie Sandoval

The work of conceptual sculpture artist is often confused with other art forms. All sculptors create objects, but the conceptual art movement aimed to move completely away from creating objects. The fact that people could not immediately see an actual object, threw many art lovers into a tailspin.

The aim of a artist in this category is to create memories, emotions and thoughts from the viewer. The viewer of the sculpture will not be asked what the object is, but rather how it makes him/her feel. The various forms of conceptual art do not depict a specific object, and could be quite mystical in appearance.

A work of conceptual art that is presented to a group of people will certainly draw attention. The aim of the piece will be to convey a message. It will not simply be a nice work of art to place on the wall. Each person who views the painting or carving may have a different and unique reaction, and may describe an experience that is contradictory to someone else.

The artiste has an idea of what he hopes the viewer will feel, experience or recall when he views the artwork. However, this may not be what the viewer sees or feels. Moreover, what a viewer sees or feels today may change over time.

The various cultures of today's societies are often an important aspect of the work created by these special communicators. The aim of their work is not merely to produce an enchanting picture, but to highlight something of great importance. They may choose a word crisis, like poverty, from which to draw inspiration, or they may form a sculpture that surrounds the issue of pollution. Most often, worldly events/crisis are chosen for conceptual art.

Conceptual sculpturing is not a new art form, and over the years there have been many great artists with well-known works of art. Tony Cragg is a favorite for his works created with various items, and Gormley, from Britain, created the piece of art referred to as the 'Angel of the North'. Other acclaimed sculptures include Anish Kapoor and Anselm Kiefer. They have both produced art works of note.

Although New York artist Jeff Koons is probably best known for his union with an Italian pornography actress, he still gains recognition for his artwork: Jacko and Bubbles. He has rightfully won world acclaim as a conceptual artiste. Britain and USA are not the only homelands of these special communicators. Australian Mike Parr is considered one of the continent's most versatile artists. Besides this form of art, he expresses himself in performance art, video art, printmaking, and drawing. Like Mike Parr, Judy Pfaff also uses installations as her medium, working in organic sprawling.

The works of art created by a conceptual sculpture artist are unique, as they convey the thoughts and feelings of the artiste, in relation to a particular crisis. The problems of our world often go ignored, and these artists see their work as a tool to give importance to these issues. Ideally, the artist tries to make a clear connection between the issue at hand and his sculpture.
