Holiday Centerpieces For Your Special Occasion

By Ava McCormick

Holiday centerpieces do not have to be difficult to put together for your special occasion or party. Sometimes the simplest arrangements and most inexpensive items used will draw the most compliments and achieve the most desired results and dazzling effects. Putting together a unique arrangement should only take a few minutes, leaving you with more time to deal with the remainder of your event planning and arrangements.

A colorful poinsettia or a pot of mums on an interesting octagonal mirror in the middle of each table creates a live arrangement that can be used over and over again. Add votive or tea candles around the base in the evenings to create a more dramatic display. Stagger the same plants on covered crates and boxes in the middle of buffet tables for a simple but unique centerpiece.

Clear glass hurricanes can be utilized in a variety of ways to make extraordinary displays. Place a clear glass plate of any color in the middle of your guest table and place a glittery pillar candle on it. Place the glass hurricane over for an instant decoration. Add colorful wreaths or either real or artificial ivy around the base for more interest.

A large bubble bowl with a pillar candle inserted inside and centered in the middle can be made into a very attractive focal point with the addition of just a few items around the base of the candle. Add items such as metallic Christmas balls, pine cones or red rose petals. Even food and candy items such as red hots, red and green jelly beans and old time ribbon candy can be utilized.

Pillar candles arranged in various heights on gold, red or silver chargers can make stunning but simple arrangements. Insert sprigs of holly, small ornaments or tiny holiday figures at the base for more visual appeal. Tie a ribbon around the entire arrangement to match your linens and other decorations.

Smaller bubble bowls or wide-mouthed glass containers can be filled with water - fill about one-half inch away from the top - and float an elegant bloom in the liquid. Roses, zinnias, and spider mums are all good choices. You can add colored stones or marbles at the bottom of the containers for more color and for double impact, place the smaller container on a round, square or octagonal mirror.

Ceramic villages and figurines of angels, nutcrackers or elves can be made into quick and easy arrangements for your guest tables. Add artificial snow or mirrors underneath to create a truly unique and personal display. They can be put back on their shelves and brought out again year after year for the same purpose.

Using your imagination and household items to turn your party into a wonderland is so easy. Just look at what you have at your fingertips and, with the addition of just a few inexpensive items, create holiday centerpieces that everyone will notice and comment on. Capture the moment in photos so you can remember these creations and use them again and again.
