Republican Party is commonly known as GOP which means Grand Old Party and among the only two major political parties in United States. They were named after the dominant value amid American Revolution which is republicanism. Among their founders are former members of Whigs and Free Soilers with economic modernizers and activist against slavery.
Their ideology currently is American conservatism with its platform involving support for labor unions restrictions, deregulation, strong national defense, fiscal conservatism and free enterprise and market capitalism. Volunteer organizations are located everywhere including Potomac GOP Patriots which will reach out to communities to campaign, advocate and discuss conservative principles. They are a district subcommittee of their place.
They seek in promoting the traditional values hugely based upon Judeo Christian ethics as they are considered socially conservative. Illegal immigration, marijuana use, affirmative actions, abortion, gun control and same sex marriage are opposed by them. Changing Puerto Rico of their status as United States territory into a new state of the Union is also supported.
They strongly believe that the primary factors of economic prosperity are individual achievement and free markets. Elimination of government run welfare programs are advocated by them while favoring private sectors to help the poor through charity. Social assistance programs may result to state dependency and individuals should be responsible about their circumstances.
Supply side economics is a theory they advocate which states economic growth increases with lower tax rates. Many Republicans are against the higher tax rates for those earning more because they believe its targeting those creating jobs and wealth unfairly. Private spending is believed to be more efficient compared to government spending.
They believe that employment practices should be established by corporations themselves including wages and benefits with the value decided by free market. Labor unions have opposed them generally because they support laws against them. Minimum wage increase was opposed because this hurts businesses by forcing jobs outsourcing and cutting with the costs being passed to consumers.
They support strict constructionism or judicial philosophy of interpreting the Constitution as close as applicable to its original intent. Judicial restraint is favored which encourages limits to judges when exercising their powers and upholds precedent established by past judges. They believe federalism though federal authorities must have limitations and states would have larger roles.
Their leaders, historically, are supporters of environmental regulations and protections and policies were signed for this. Though their position has been changed since then with their previous goal of combating climate change turning into not believing its existence. They reject limitations against carbon and greenhouse gas emissions which draw activists to criticize them. Although some of their members in higher positions have a different position regarding climate change which is unusual among them.
Ways to deal with illegal immigration among Republicans is different with migrant workers being given the path to citizenship supported by establishment types. While populists support in deporting illegal immigrants and securing the border. Theories characterized by conflicts of nations against others being faceless forces instead of being caused by ideas and actions of leaders are what they though of the international relations they have.
