By Essie Osborn

Most people love to amuse their friends with skills that only they possess. Having that unique ability to demonstrate an art form of any kind can place you in the spot light with children and adults alike. Learning how to draw cartoon characters is a simple way to achieve that special skill set.

Accessing lessons and instructors is not difficult. There most likely is someone local who can teach you the basics. Hopefully this person will be someone you will make a connection with. It is important to communicate freely with the person teaching you to draw. Learning is much easier when you are comfortable with the instructor.

There are private teachers that specialize in this type of drawing available where you live. These instructors will take time to help you reach your goals with very little trouble. They have skill levels that enable them to take you to the expert levels of drawing that might allow you to consider a career in the field.

Searching the internet is a good place to begin your search for training. The number of different sites and techniques you find there will give you an excellent idea of what you are looking for and what type of cartooning you want to learn. There are a number of different types of images that are available to copy. You may find that you can recreate all of your favorite characters from Disney and from your comic book heroes.

There are other places online that will bring you to the point where you can create your own private cartooning personalities. You will find out how to position the features of the face and what a difference the expression on the face will make. The contours of the eyes and mouth are what gives the picture life. Many artists use their own faces as a basic pattern when they start out. Hours of practicing the expressions a face can make easily translates to their drawings.

The same type of training can be found in colleges and night classes locally. The process may take a much longer time to finish when using these resources. They have a tendency to work towards preparations for the next class in the full course and getting the student more familiar with art in general.

Book stores are also a good place to look for this training. There you will find a multitude of books that are designed to teach you to sketch, draw and paint your creations. This will allow you to develop your own style of drawing while learning from professionals at your own speed. You may find the same books available at the city library. This will prove much less expensive than purchasing the books before you are able to explore them for content.

Setting a goal of learning to be a skilled cartoonist can be a lot of fun for you. Because of the techniques you learn a world of fantasy will open up to both you and your family and should you want to try to create a career of your new talent you will have a very good start.
