Tips On Auditorium Theater Seating For Optimum Patron Comfort

By Richard Moore

There are two ways for patrons to be seated for a performance in a hall. The first form is multiple aisle. This allows two aisles for each row. The number of rows depends on how big the room is, for the most part. The other form is continental. This is one big block of chairs positioned at the center of the room. If done well, this allows for more auditorium theater seating. In this case, the exit doors have to be placed strategically.

Ever wonder why some theaters have a curved design while others are just straight? Well, the reason is the floor construction. If the chair arrangement does not conform to the floor construction, the comfort of the patrons will be compromised. The audience will have an obstructed view. The audience is the sole reason for putting so much work and thought into the design process.

Before engaging the idea of designing a space, there is the need for an abstract idea or vision. How many units would be required for the space to achieve optimal function? How long should the project take? How much time would be convenient for the establishment? Pick a good chair model. Ensure to consider the ergonomic aspects before deciding on a chair.

While practicality is great, one should think about incorporating a little bit of luxury. Hence the need for accessories. Chairs come with many of those. Everything from aisle lighting to cup holders. Cup holders can be on the back of the chairs or on the armrests. Other accessories can be swivel tables, electric outlets, reclining abilities and lumbar support. You can choose one, a few, or all of these for the comfort of the patrons.

This kind of hall will mostly hold plays and musical or poetry performances. This will be an important aspect to consider when picking chairs. They have to be extremely comfortable so that they do not get in the way of experiencing the performance.

Code consideration is integral. If the odes are not adhered to, the establishment risks a fine or some sort of punishment from the authorities. There should be adequate spacing and passageways. The arrangement should not discourage quick getaway in case of emergencies. The arrangement should also be kind to people living with disabilities. There should be adequate accessibility for them.

Making all of these decisions might be difficult for a person lacking in experience and knowledge. Therefore, it is okay to get a professional to help through all the decisions. A professional will be instrumental in introducing new technologies and accessories.

Patrons are the reason for making such a fuss over chair arrangement. They need to be comfortable and have to be in a position to maintain a strong relationship with the stage. The audience should not experience some disconnect with the performance due to poor chair arrangement design.
