Understanding Different Oil Painting Techniques

By Scott Miller

There is a lot of beauty in art. Luckily, this can be expressed through oil painting techniques among other means. This involves putting life in picture form. For an individual to produce something worthwhile, they will have to work with different colors and brushes. It is also important to be aware of different tricks to use to come up with this art.

Most of the time, the work completed tends to represent their individual. It may be their likes and dislikes. A person into nature may want to paint animals. To show strength and fierceness, one would portray a lion. To show grace, a young gazelle would definitely fit the picture. An important part of nature also involves the terrain of the land.

Still images are also popular. They may be used to set one artist apart from another. This is because an individual is allowed to use different skill sets to come up with the image. This means they can add a little color here and put some lighting on another side. The image may or may not have a shadow. It can be created by working with different strokes and colors.

It is their joy to get to paint real life images. A client may want an image of how they look on a particular day. They could be expected to sit for a while and not move. Breaks may be needed every once in a while and the work may be interfered with. A better option is giving out a photo to be used. Here, one can choose their best picture and hope the expert can remake the same thing.

Every professional needs to be aware of the different oils that exist in the market. Choices are then made according to what is beneficial to them. They dry at different rates. One should not paint over a slow drying type unless they want smudges on their work. Tools need to be placed near their working area when it is time to paint.

An interesting method involves color blocking. This is where one masters the use of different shades. When colors blend, the results are beautiful. A change of color can be applied on the edges. The individual will apply a lighter shade at this point. This is through diluting the colors that were majorly used for the rest of the object.

The best pieces of work have different colors. Not every individual can bring this mixture to perfection especially when using multiple colors. Before placing layers on top of each other, they should get a chance to dry. Light colors are first used. They are often made of thin oils. Later on darker colors that are thicker are then involved.

Most buyers today are on the lookout for what is unique. Anything cliche cannot sell when it comes to art. One can try to create a three dimensional image. This needs a lot of practice to get the skill right. Every expert knows the importance of perfecting his or her strokes. This will give definition to their work especially when it comes to the shape of objects.
