The Brass And Woodwind Sterilization Process

By Jody Leach

In order to play a wind instrument, one would have to blow into the instrument using his mouth all the time. However, the thing about wind instruments is that they may build up bacteria which would make them quite harmful for one to blow. It is for this reason that this type of instrument would need regular brass and woodwind sterilization.

Now one does not actually need to sterilize the entire thing as it will not really be necessary. The part that he would really need to clean up regularly would actually be the mouthpiece because this is where one will be placing his mouth. So the very first step would be to gather some things for the job.

So there are pretty much just four things that one would need to get when he is going to do the job. Now the first thing he would need would be a bottle of any type of alcohol along with a cup that is filled with hot water. Now he will also be needing a special mouthpiece disinfectant solution that can be bought at pretty much any music store.

Now after he has gathered all the necessary materials, then he will now need to put some disinfected on the mouthpiece. Now the thing about the disinfectant is that it will clean up all the dirt that can be found on that part. It is made out of a special solution that would actually take away any dirt or other kind of substance out.

The next thing that one has to do would be to douse that part with some alcohol. Now it is very important that one would do this because he has to kill all the bacteria that is there. To do this, it is better to douse the clean cloth with some alcohol and wipe the mouthpiece so that it can thoroughly kill the bacteria and the germs that are there.

After one has already done that, then the next thing that he should do would be to get the glass of hot water. Now after he has gotten the glass of hot water, he should put just a little bit of soap inside. Once he has mixed the soap with the hot water, then he should soak the mouthpiece in there for a few minutes.

Now after one has soaked the instrument in the hot water and soap mix, then he has to rinse the instrument. He can do this by putting it under a faucet and let the running water take away all of the remaining substances that are there. Once one feels like the instrument is already clean, then he can wipe it off with a cloth.

So basically, those are the steps that one should take if he would want to clean his wind instrument. Now he has to do this regularly if he would want to keep it clean from any harmful germs or bacteria. He should probably do this around once or twice a week depending on how often he would play his instrument.
