Another common term for voice coach is vocal coach. These coaches are teachers that teach and instruct a singer to improve his or her techniques and as well as to take care and develop the voice. Some of the coaches privately teach master classes, lessons, and work shops. They serve as guides for the singers doing a practice or doing a song recording. Usually, coaches focus more on music that are either classical or popular. But some may focus only on the techniques for singing like breathing and word diction and pronunciation.

Mostly, the voice coach is both the writer and the producer of arrangements for harmony of the backup vocalists and the developer for the melody of secondary vocalists. Some serve as advisers to bands and to singers for lyric writing of musical productions. There are critics concerning on the issues of popular recordings in which it credits the singer for the work done by the voice coach Los Angeles and not acknowledging coaches who did the lyric writing for singers.

In year 2000, there is already a number of soft wares used for recording that contain the different types of algorithms for the vocal processing and also pitch correction devices. Others may just have little experience in formal trainings and that is why they prefer on enhancing their skills through their experiences as a performer. While those that do not have trainings are often found in music styles and also in classical milieu. An example for this is when a language speaker moves to another country to be a diction coach to some vocal students, and may have developed in the styles of singing.

Other coaches may also have the profession related to music like rehearsal pianists that accompanies the singers in musical theaters. And some do not also have music related musical professions. Example for this is having yoga techniques or other aspects medically concerning on vocal cords and the throat.

This profession became very competitive nowadays especially for those in higher professional levels. Their salary is highly dependent on the conditions of work. At times, they can demand their own prices.

Mostly, art and music professionals have lower salaries compared to other professionals. This is possible when both are required to have similar amount of education and experience. Other professionals are the economists and bank managers.

Work conditions vary widely. It depends upon having a part time job or freelance job in the opera or recording companies. Contracts are given for full time workers in most universities and companies of musical theaters.
