The Importance Of High Visibility Safety Products

By Minnie Whitley

To be safe from most harm is one of the goals of man. People work hard to earn money and reach financial security. People abide by the rules and are careful not to put a toe out of line for political safety. People live a healthy lifestyle to achieve physical safety. People go to different places of worship to have spiritual security.

Although one can not be fully protected, it does not mean that a person should not take precautionary measures to be able to avoid harm. People give their homes a certain level of protection through surveillance. People protect loved ones by looking after them in any way they possibly could. People protect property through insurance. People protect themselves from occupational hazard through the use of high visibility safety products.

These products can take varied forms like jumpsuits, vests, trousers, hats and other apparel that serve to protect a person from possible harm in the workplace. These clothing are usually very brightly colored and have reflector strips for them to be seen clearly.

These are used by those who are exposed to very high occupational hazards. Among these are parking attendants, rescue brigades, traffic officers, construction workers and all those who are required to work where there are hazardous machinery that may endanger them if they are not seen clearly. These clothing are made out of special materials that provide utmost protection.

Fluorescent materials are already used ever since employers have seen the need for high visibility clothing. Safety garbs made out of this material absorb UV rays which are invisible to the naked human eyes. The UV light makes the vest more visible to anyone who looks at it. However, these are only used in low light conditions during the day. Since they tap rays from the sun, they are quite useless during the dark.

To solve the problem, gears made from retro reflective materials are used for night shift laborers. This returns light in the direction of the source. For example, people working on road constructions after sunset are seen by drivers because the light from the headlights of the car will hit the retro reflective suit and will bounce back to the source of light. These are most suited for low light conditions.

And, since technological advances are making living conditions day by day, there are also protective wear that functions both ways. This is very tricky, since not all fluorescent materials are retro reflective, and vice versa. If you are planning on these types of materials, it is recommended that you used only those that passed the OSHA standards.

In the selection of these ensembles, one must always keep in mind the size and the fit of the apparel. It should fit the wearer well, even with clothes underneath. These should also be comfortable and allow for freer movements.

All safety apparel are divided into three different strata. Class one is noted for low coverage. Class two guarantees medium coverage and fine visibility. Class three is extremely visible under all possible conditions and provides for total coverage.
