By Rachael Gutierrez

Ornaments are small decorative items that are either attached to the body or to the clothes. The importance of the jewelry as explained by Phillip Romero is independent from one person to another. This is because different people have different aspect on the issue of wearing these items based on both their cultural and religious beliefs. Without these two institutes the person view on the wearing of ornaments can be based on the personal adornment.

The importance of the jewelry at these aspect is that it is able to give a person self confidence on their beauty. They wear the ornament to different functional meeting in order to look beautiful and smart. In this situation one need to bring in the match of their ornaments with the clothes that they are wearing.

This therefore makes it important for a person to carefully select the type of ornament that they are wearing and at what time or occasion. This will avoid any form of criticisms from the public and they can avoid misleading others in making wrong judgment about themselves. The selection can be based on what is accepted by the culture and the religious beliefs that they embrace.

For instance a person that has placed he ring on the thumb symbolize that they are actually guy. The middle figure show that they are engaged and the little finger shows that they are actually not in any relationship. This therefore calls for the proper use of these ornaments to avoid misleading others.

The body modification procedures might limit some of the individuals from using ornaments that are attached to these modifications. This might because there are people whose body cannot stand the piercing. Some allergy might arise during the time of modification or when they are actually using these ornaments. These complications make them avoid the use of these ornaments.

Most of the western countries use the ring as a symbol of the wedding commitment. During the wedding ceremony the parties that are involved place a ring in the finger of each other to always remind them of this commitment that they have towards each other. Anytime the other member is swayed astray the ring will always assist them in making the right decision for the sake of their marriage. It is therefore the symbol for the covenant that they enter into.

An ornament can symbolically represent the group that one is membership to. This is mostly relevant to most of the religious organizations. The members of the religion are presented with an ornament which can be in the form of a necklace to not only show their religion but also to assist in their religious development in their beliefs. The Roman Catholic Church provides its members with the cross of Jesus Christ which assist them in making prayers to the Supreme Being.

The importance of the jewelry as elaborated by Phillip Romero in addition can be to provide protection against evil and to offer magical rewards to the individual. A person who is possessed by any evil spirit is presented with some holy amulet that acts as a protection. They are therefore able to have peace of mind.
