A Quick Look At The Guitar Line Up And Particulars From Schertler

By Madeline Pittman

Say the name Schertler and almost any musician's ears will perk up, from the professional musician doing gigs every day to the starry eyed dreamer sitting in their room air-guitaring. The company was started with a desire for collaboration between two musical greats Stephan Schertler and famed Swiss guitar designer and builder Claudio Pagelli. Their plan was to create and market smaller electric and acoustic guitars.

They would be standard equipped with ultra-high quality pickups and tuning hardware, though limited upgrades would be available. The bodies would be crafted from the best hardwood or spruce for sound tone and superior quality. The shapes were designed to have a unique and elegant look. In the brief time they have been doing business they have fulfilled these expectations by creating a unique group of instruments that any musician would be proud to own.

They have four distinct but similarly constructed guitars to make a unique instrument. Most guitars can be crafted to order by picking or choosing different options such as finishes and the hardware. The four models listed are the CP, SB, SM and the SP.

The CP is a nylon string model that is as much at home around a friendly campfire as it is on the stage in front of thousands of people. The top is constructed from solid Swiss spruce for tone and warmth. The sides and back solid Indian rosewood for added depth and warmth to the sound. The pickups are also electronic with the typical side mount controls.

The model SB is a steel string. It also has the alpine Swiss spruce top supplying better tone and depth. Both the backs and side are fashioned from a newer hard-wood called Bubinga. This hard-wood enhances the tone and sustain making them sharper. The veritable electronic controls are located on-board and do a fine job mixing the sound.

The SM model also uses six steel strings. It shares the Swiss spruce cut-away top to help with enhancing the sound depth and quality. The side and back are hand crafted with prime cut mahogany. This will give it a much fuller and richer sound when compared to many of its counterparts. Its built electronics and pickups work together nicely rounding the package out.

The SP is another steel string model in their lineup. It too has the Swiss alpine spruce top for a richer sound quality. The back and sides are old growth Indian rosewood. Perfect for that classical, folk or flamenco music. The on board electronics offer a wide range of controls and are positioned for maximum usability.

One of the best selling points is a limitless combination which is possible with the on-board pre-amp and the mixer. While it cannot replace a more expensive petal board, it does a good job sounding like one. Every control does exactly what it should do.

Lately more mainstream guitarists are embracing the sound qualities of acoustic guitars when plugged in or unplugged. From the way things look Schertler guitars are in front of the curve. With its solidly designed body and unique style it is unbeatable.
